In 2013 BEE Mobile was awarded the contract to develop a new mobile app platform for SA’s Parliament. As part of Parliament’s strategic plan, a mobile app suite was created to not only assist in their drive to become paperless but to provide a method to keep the public informed on parliamentary processes. The app was designed for iOS and Android phones and tablets and provided dynamic content to users in real time. The resulting app was a huge success, cutting paper costs by up to R75million in a single year.
In 2009 SABC and BEE Mobile concluded an agreement to develop a mobile platform and accompanying assets for the SABC TV channels. At the end of 2009 Premier Mobile Club, Mzansi Lounge and a number of other services were launched with great success. SABC and BEE Mobile grew a database of hundreds of thousands of users that generated impressive revenue for the corporation from a previously untapped area.
In a joint venture with Independent Online, BEE Mobile developed a shopping platform called My Price Guru that allowed users to find the lowest price for almost anything from tyres and accommodation to TV sets and flights.
Play SA Lotto was the first mobile purchasing system in SA that allowed users to purchase Lottery tickets from their phone without having to go to the shops. BEE Mobile developed the platform with Lidonga and was the first to market in SA with this groundbreaking system.
